Not Every Client Is Meant For You—And That’s Okay

For anyone who needs to hear this: not every person who comes to you for your service is meant for you—and that’s okay.

It can be tempting to say yes to everyone, especially when we care deeply about helping others or when we’re still growing in confidence as practitioners. Yet the truth is, there is no obligation to accept every client, just as there is no obligation for the client to move forward with us. The exchange of energy is as important as the service itself. If the alignment isn’t there, forcing it rarely serves either side.
This doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong, or that your abilities or offerings aren’t enough. Sometimes the timing is off. Sometimes the person isn’t ready. And sometimes, it simply isn’t meant to be. Recognising this truth can save you from unnecessary strain and helps you preserve your energy for those who are aligned—the ones who are truly ready to meet you in the work.
When we honour our own boundaries and listen to our discernment, we create space for the right people to arrive. Those who will benefit from our offerings. Those who will respect and value our work. And in doing so, we deepen the integrity of our practice. Saying no isn’t a failure—it can often be the most loving and professional act, both for ourselves and for the other person.
I’ve had moments in my own practice where I felt the pull to say yes, even though my intuition was quietly whispering no. And I’ve also felt the relief and clarity that comes from honouring that whisper, from trusting the wisdom of timing and alignment.
Recently, I had someone contact me about a house clearing. On the phone, their speech was erratic and urgent, and as I listened, I was already receiving deeper information about the land, the spirits, and the ancestors who were eager for their voices to be heard. It was as though I was holding counsel with many layers of the unseen. After some back and forth with the client, I felt a niggling sense inside me that this might not be the right fit.
As a Medicine Woman, part of my role is not only listening to the human client, but also to the spirit world that comes forward. And in this case, I needed to hear their stories in order to relay what was being asked. But when I shared this information, the client’s willingness to engage in their part of the work stopped. I could have softened my words, omitted details, or presented things differently to “seal the deal,” but that would not have been authentic, nor would it have honored my “no.” We were simply not the right match for one another.
Instead of doubting myself, I left that exchange feeling affirmed in the clarity of what I had received, and in the importance of listening deeply to my own discernment.
At the heart of it, this is about trust—trusting that when we make space, the people who are truly meant to work with us will find their way. The right relationships, the right connections, the right yeses—they arrive with a sense of ease and recognition. That’s when the work becomes most nourishing and alive.
If you find yourself struggling to come into alignment, to hear the quiet voice of your intuition, or to know the difference between your “yes” and your “no,” I would love to support you. Together, we can explore ways to connect more deeply with your inner knowing so that your choices—whether in work, relationships, or life—come from a place of clarity and truth.
💜 You’re warmly invited to book a session with me and begin the journey of trusting yourself more fully.
